DUWiT Hacks 2027 — Durham University Women in Tech

About DUWiT
DUWiT is Durham University Women in Tech — a student society for anyone who wants an inclusive tech community at Durham.
Too many of us were told tech feels like a boys' job. We exist so it stops feeling that way: a place to learn, meet people, and build confidence while you're still a student — not a decade into being the only one in the room.
We like solving problems. That's the actual job. So that's how we treat this one — not as a grievance to get angry about, but as a problem with a fix, the same as any other bug in the system.
DUWiT Hacks itself is for women and non-binary participants. Anyone can volunteer to help run it.
Community
Socials, and a room full of people who get why tech still feels like a boys' club sometimes — and want that to change.
Hackathon
DUWiT Hacks — our flagship build weekend. Team projects, mentors, sponsors, and something real to show afterwards.
Careers
We're looking at CV support and internship connections through our sponsors and partners. Nothing is confirmed yet — we'll share more when we can.
- Do I need to study Computer Science?
- No. Curiosity matters more than your degree. Teams need design, ideas, presentation, and organisation as much as code.
- I've never been to a hackathon. Is that OK?
- Yes. We design for beginners and returners. Questions are expected; showing up is enough.
